The article is about Hearts Speak, an organization that I am a member of that connects artists like photographers, videographers, painters, graphic designers, etc. to animal shelters to help get pets adopted, among other great projects.
This kind of organization needs this kind of well deserved praise and exposure. There is a lot to say about but I will say no more…….. just read the article and you will be thoroughly educated on why Hearts Speak exists and why they are making a difference in the animal rescue world.
Buster is a young, 140 pound Bullmastiff puppy! He often stays with a neighbor friend of mine in Boulder while his parents are out of town. Me and my dog Jackie have taken many walks with him since he was a 20 pound youngster. Buster is such a sweet, gentle giant and he loves hanging out with lots of dogs and people. He had a good time at his portrait session and ate lots of treats! Since he is young though, he didn’t want to sit for long so we kept his portrait session short and sweet.
This is one of the many families that do an annual family portrait with me in Boulder, Colorado. Annual portraits make the best keepsakes for your family to commemorate their growth, changes and wonderful memories. Don’t forget the dog!
Two senior bulldogs and their human parents, Amy and James, set out on a lovely afternoon in Boulder for their family portrait session. The light was beautiful, the grass green and big toothy smiles set the scene. Ludo, age 12 and his buddy Mara Jade, age 8 had fun sniffing the ground, being in the lime light and trying new poses to get the best shots. Ludo doesn’t walk so well anymore, so his dad would just pick him up and carry him throughout our session, from scene to scene. Mara Jade would waddle alongside to keep up. We got a ton of great images that their parents will have to commemorate the bond they have with their pups. Amy and James were the highest bidders and won this photo session at the silent auction for Homeward Bound, a benefit for the Longmont Humane Society that was held earlier this year. Each year I donate a session to the fundraiser along with a few prints.
I’m a sucker for a beaded flapper dress and a gorgeous gal and MUST make beautiful images! I bought this dress on line for an obscenely low price and put out a call for a model among people I know. Lindsay stepped right up and this dress was made for her!
This Women’s Contemporary Portrait session was done at my Boulder studio in my home. I hand painted the backdrop, with the help of my talented husband. These type of sessions are really fun. We get to play dress up, do up your hair and makeup and create amazing images that you will have for a lifetime. You, your children, grandchildren and other family members will truly cherish these images now and way down the line, many years from how. Imagine your grandchild seeing images like these and saying “Wow! that’s my Grandma!”
I believe this was the sixth time I’ve done family portraits for this beautiful family since their oldest daughter was barely two years old. I love documenting a family’s growth through the years and providing them with images to remember many of their wonderful moments. When I photograph a family with children, I of course photograph them all together but I also photograph just the kids together, each individual child, and each child alone with each parent. I think that when each child becomes an adult they will not only cherish their family photos but will also cherish the images they have of just themselves with their mother or father. These images prove to be intimate and memorable and express the feelings they shared for each other in their young lives. I also make sure to do a portrait of just mom and dad together. These portraits were done on campus in Boulder, Colorado.
I had a really fun newborn portrait and family photography session in my Boulder studio a few months ago. I did a combination of just the baby, the baby with each family member, the family all together and some macro images of baby parts – a must have with newborn photography sessions. This little guy gave us some great opportunities to capture images of him sleeping and being fully awake.
I photographed this amazing family at Wonderland Lake in Boulder, Colorado. The kids had a great time running up and down the trail and the dogs enjoyed playing in the water. The mother of this family is the owner of Carley Barley, a local business in which she designs and creates baby clothes that are 100% organic and made with eco friendly dyes. Scroll to the bottom of this post to see some gorgeous babies modeling these adorable clothes. I photographed the images for the Carley Barley catalog and you can see more clothing and images here: www.carleybarley.com. Yay families!
A couple of weeks ago, I attended a Pittie Party, right in my own backyard in Boulder, Colorado. Attendees included Bruno, Gabby and Cap – three beautiful pitties, along with their foster mom and the Director and Asst. Director of Grittie Pittie Rescue of Longmont, Colorado. Grittie Pittie Rescue saves dogs from death row at a high kill shelter in Roswell, NM. Rachel, the Director, places these wonderful dogs in foster homes until they are adopted by a loving family. GPR has saved many dogs from a senseless death and given them a second chance at enjoying a long and joyful life. I have done many of the pet portraits for the dogs that GPR has brought to Colorado and it is always a humbling experience. Bruno, Gabby and Cap were no exception and their silly smiles and wagging tails just melt my heart. Keeping my fingers crossed that they find their forever homes soon!
Newborn babies are great to photograph as soon as you are ready. They change quickly so bring them in for their photos before too much time goes by. The best time for your newborn portrait session is between seven and 14 days but if you do miss that time frame, pick a time that works best for you. I’m happy to do portrait sessions at your home if that makes life easier for you! This little guy took a couple of naps at my Boulder studio, which made for some wonderful poses.
