I believe this was the sixth time I’ve done family portraits for this beautiful family since their oldest daughter was barely two years old. I love documenting a family’s growth through the years and providing them with images to remember many of their wonderful moments. When I photograph a family with children, I of course photograph them all together but I also photograph just the kids together, each individual child, and each child alone with each parent. I think that when each child becomes an adult they will not only cherish their family photos but will also cherish the images they have of just themselves with their mother or father. These images prove to be intimate and memorable and express the feelings they shared for each other in their young lives. I also make sure to do a portrait of just mom and dad together. These portraits were done on campus in Boulder, Colorado.
I photographed this amazing family at Wonderland Lake in Boulder, Colorado. The kids had a great time running up and down the trail and the dogs enjoyed playing in the water. The mother of this family is the owner of Carley Barley, a local business in which she designs and creates baby clothes that are 100% organic and made with eco friendly dyes. Scroll to the bottom of this post to see some gorgeous babies modeling these adorable clothes. I photographed the images for the Carley Barley catalog and you can see more clothing and images here: www.carleybarley.com. Yay families!
A couple of weeks ago, I attended a Pittie Party, right in my own backyard in Boulder, Colorado. Attendees included Bruno, Gabby and Cap – three beautiful pitties, along with their foster mom and the Director and Asst. Director of Grittie Pittie Rescue of Longmont, Colorado. Grittie Pittie Rescue saves dogs from death row at a high kill shelter in Roswell, NM. Rachel, the Director, places these wonderful dogs in foster homes until they are adopted by a loving family. GPR has saved many dogs from a senseless death and given them a second chance at enjoying a long and joyful life. I have done many of the pet portraits for the dogs that GPR has brought to Colorado and it is always a humbling experience. Bruno, Gabby and Cap were no exception and their silly smiles and wagging tails just melt my heart. Keeping my fingers crossed that they find their forever homes soon!
Newborn babies are great to photograph as soon as you are ready. They change quickly so bring them in for their photos before too much time goes by. The best time for your newborn portrait session is between seven and 14 days but if you do miss that time frame, pick a time that works best for you. I’m happy to do portrait sessions at your home if that makes life easier for you! This little guy took a couple of naps at my Boulder studio, which made for some wonderful poses.
Mango and Teagan visited with me at my Boulder Photography Studio to have their portraits done. Quite the playful pair, these two live together with their humans in Longmont. Mango has a special job. He is a therapy dog and he and his mom visit with patients at Longmont United Hospital to lift their spirits during difficult times. I really enjoyed playing them in the studio and giving them lots of treats in exchange for their fun and silly poses for the camera. They are both absolutely beautiful!
This was my third family portrait session with this Boulder family and as usual, there were lots of laughs, playing and tail wagging. One of the best things about family photography is seeing families time and again and seeing how quickly their children grow. We had a perfect fall day full of colorful leaves to play with and to use for a beautiful background.
These two pups created lots of laughs at their pet portrait session in Louisville. Both are seniors but had plenty of energy running around the yard, jumping for treats and Lady Bug, a Great Dane, especially liked showing off her “baby” stuffie. Boomer is a Beagle and is now 10 1/2 years old!
A few weekends ago I did a portrait session in Boulder with my bestie and her granddaughter. We took a walk in the woods, the tall grasses and hung out in my back yard while they played together. These lifestyle portrait sessions are really fun and I enjoy creating images of kids being kids while also creating some nice portraits.
Jax, a bouncing baby boy, joined his three sisters for the family’s annual photo session in Boulder. The girls had a great time showing off their new baby brother and just being silly for a few of their own portraits. Over the years, each girl has taken turns doing a “tea party” photo using the same tea party table and chairs that their mother was photographed with when she was a girl. I’ve included a couple of these precious images!
On a recent pet portrait session, my goal was to capture the bond between Lyn and her best friend Lizzy and to also create an image in silhouette. The bond was obvious and could not be denied! I was also lucky enough to have an amazing sunset and was able to get a silhouette showing their bond.
